How does a person end up an Artist ?
When I was in the Fourth Grade we had a Substitute Teacher one day. He showed us how to use a very simple technique to create a drawing of a Lake with receding perspective. I was very proud of my effort. The Substitute studied the drawing and said, "It is a wonderful work, you are destined to be an Artist." At this time in my life I was not receiving praise in School for much of anything and his declaration was all it took to give my Life a purpose.
Now, at the age of 72, I marvel at how the simple words of a young man could have such a profound effect on my life. Thank you, whom ever you were.
My Artist's Statement, or if you please, my process.
At heart, I'm a mark maker. One followed by another. Some become shapes. Basic design trying to become beautiful. The marks can be made with any thing. Any tool, any material and any process ( imagine what you could do with a Turkey Baster ). I work on the large side so I can use up my energy productively. The end is a Contemplative Object, a little Universe, without a name or a place or a time. In the end I find my meaning in the making so that you can find yours in the viewing.

If you could say it in words there would be no reason to paint
